2012 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund Finalists Announced!
The State Alumni website has announced the 154 finalists in the 2012 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) competition!  This year’s competition brought in 685 proposals from nearly 7,000 alumni in more than 115 countries.  Finalist project teams are now finalizing their proposals before May 8 when all State Alumni members will be invited to vote for their five favorite proposals from among the finalists!   We encourage all alumni to log on to State Alumni now to provide feedback to the finalist teams or even to offer to join one of the finalist teams!

SEAL 2012 delegates meet U.S. Ambassador Jones

The Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) offers $1,000,000 to help teams of alumni take on global issues from civic engagement to economic growth!  Administered by the State Department’s Alumni Affairs Division, AEIF awards up to $25,000 per winning team. Log on to State Alumni now to learn more and get involved! 

Palestinian SUSI alumnus Mahmoud Jabari 

Malaysian-American Alumni Partnership Hosts the Southeast Asia-American Alumni Youth Conference
From April 19 to 21, 2012 the Malaysian-American Alumni Partnership (MAAP) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur hosted The Southeast Asia-American Alumni (SEAL) Youth Conference.  The 3-day conference held at the Maya Hotel Kuala Lumpur brought together approximately 50 young alumni leaders between ages 18 to 30 of U.S. Government sponsored exchange programs from Southeast Asian countries. 


Palestinian SUSI Alumnus Gives Talk at TEDxTeen
Study of the United States Institutes for Student Leaders on New Media (SUSI) alumnus, Mahmoud Jabari, was invited to speak at the TEDxTeen on March 31, 2012 in New York City. The theme of this TEDxTeen Conference was “The Wisdom of Not Knowing.” In his talk, titled “Shaping a Global Lens,” Jabari introduces his childhood, his early involvement in his peers’ issues, his connection to journalism, and his hope for peace.


STATE ALUMNI MEMBER OF THE MONTH

State Alumni Member of the Month, Noof Assi 

Noof Assi of Iraq has been selected as the U.S. Department of State’s Alumni Member of the Month for May 2012 in recognition of her leadership in promoting civic engagement among Arab youth through social media.  Assi participated in the 2010 Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP) that allowed her to attend the University of Southern Indiana. Applying the leadership and cross-cultural communication skills she developed during that time, Assi has become a prominent youth activist and social media leader in Iraq and throughout the region.
